Tetun Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Facilitate on-demand telephone interpreting sessions between Tetun and English speakers.

• Accurately convey concepts and meanings in accordance with established interpretation protocols.

• Articulate clearly in both languages, ensuring proper pronunciation, enunciation, and courteous expressions.

• Uphold a professional demeanor throughout all interpreting sessions.

• Maintain composure during incoherent, distressed, or emergency 911 calls.

• Ensure punctuality and availability during designated work hours.

• Adhere to client instructions and protocols while assisting individuals with limited English proficiency.

• Utilize terminology and procedures across various sectors, including medical, insurance, finance, law, government, and others.

• Exhibit cultural sensitivity in a diverse workplace.

• Provide verbal interpretation; this role does not include written translation.

• Operate from a quiet and secure home office environment.

• Manage potentially emotional, stressful, prolonged, or high-volume calls while adhering to company service standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in Tetun and English, with a strong understanding of the associated cultural nuances.

• Capacity to demonstrate cultural competency and recognize regional and accent variations.

• Exceptional listening, retention, and note-taking abilities.

• Capability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive discussions.

• Educational background or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation is preferred.

• Must be adaptable to LanguageLine Solutions technology upgrades.

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Legally permitted to work in the United States.

• Must possess work authorization that does not currently or in the future require visa sponsorship.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Ability to read and write in the required languages is highly preferred.

• A dedicated personal device for business use is necessary.

• Desktop or laptop with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS, or an acceptable tablet/smartphone is required.

• High-speed internet access with a minimum of 5 Mbps download speed, 3 Mbps upload speed, a ping of no more than 300 ms, and jitter not exceeding 30 ms.

• Access to a quiet workspace free from background noise or distractions.

• Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse while remaining stationary in front of a computer for most of the workday.

• Capability to use company-provided software and systems.

• Sufficient manual dexterity for typing or writing tasks.

• Able to lift up to 26 lbs.

• May encounter moderate noise levels.

• A post-offer pre-employment background check and/or drug screening may be required based on location.
