Chinese Linguist – Interpretation, Part-Time, Travel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Provide primary oral interpretation support in formal meetings and office environments in Chinese.

• Integrate seamlessly into a customer team and collaborate with client personnel to fulfill the mission.

• Deliver consecutive interpretation while maintaining the speaker's nuances and terminology.

• Utilize knowledge of foreign affairs, military matters, international security, and regional security vocabulary.

• Enhance vocabulary and fluency in specialized technical subjects.

• Engage in preparation and after-action meetings.

• Take notes related to engagements.

• Offer limited written translations of documents.

• Comply with the Code of Conduct and terminology guidelines.

• Travel for engagements in East Asia at least quarterly.

• Participate promptly in planning travel logistics.

• Attend meetings and prepare documents in Northern Virginia before and after travel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active in-scope Secret clearance is required.

• U.S. citizenship is necessary for obtaining the security clearance.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in oral interpretation is required.

• Native or near-native proficiency in Chinese, defined as ILR level 4 or 5.

• Documentation of recent language scores or completion of standardized language assessments during the application process.

• Familiarity with Chinese culture, media, and linguistic nuances is important.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• A valid US passport is mandatory.

• Ability to travel at least quarterly with 30–60 days’ notice.

• Professional Interpretation Certification is preferred.

• Active in-scope TS/SCI clearance is preferred.

• Familiarity to fluency in Taiwanese is preferred.

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Foreign Affairs, International Politics, Military History, Chinese Studies, Interpretation, or a related field is preferred.

• Experience within the US intelligence, military, or cryptographic communities is preferred.
