This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee and manage all Short-Term Disability claims.
• Determine eligibility, calculate earnings and benefit levels, and gather necessary medical documentation within specified timelines.
• Conduct interviews with claimants and employers in both English and French.
• Process claims in chronological order in accordance with client service standards.
• Evaluate diagnoses and treatment plans utilizing available resources.
• Maintain professional communication with insurance agencies, healthcare providers, employees, management, and legal representatives.
• Disclose only permissible information to authorized recipients and provide written documentation.
• Compose and send written correspondence detailing claim activities and next steps in both English and French.
• Engage in claim conference calls with employers.
• Work alongside the early intervention team to reduce absence duration and facilitate the return of claimants to work.
• Supply documentation to insurance carriers for MTD/LTD claim processing.
• Utilize the automated claims payment system and perform manual calculations as necessary.
• Adjudicate STD claims within set timeframes and policy guidelines.
• Minimum of 3 years of claims experience in a group insurance setting.
• Preferred experience in Long or Short term disability insurance.
• Post-secondary degree, diploma, or equivalent experience required.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and disability contract language is a plus.
• CDMP or LOMA designation is advantageous.
• A medical background, such as Occupational Therapist, Kinesiology, Nursing, or Physiotherapy, is beneficial.
• Proficiency in both English and French is essential.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and French.
• Ability to work during core business hours.
• Capability to maintain confidentiality regarding client and corporate records, as well as medical claims information.
• Following the training period, a minimum accuracy rate of 95% is required.
• Minimum of 3 weeks of vacation.
• 26 long weekends annually through the Happy Friday program.
