This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Manage litigation related to claims against policyholders or the organization from the initial stages through trial and appeal.
• Oversee a caseload that primarily consists of low- to moderate-complexity cases.
• Cultivate and implement litigation skills and strategies to present cases at trial or negotiate settlements.
• Conduct legal research and create compelling legal documents and presentations.
• Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery materials, and other related paperwork.
• Attend court sessions, depositions, and other appointments autonomously.
• Analyze cases and provide recommendations to insured clients and claim partners regarding file-handling strategies.
• Establish and nurture relationships with internal and external clients and business partners.
• Offer advice and training to Claim partners and clients.
• Effectively utilize available technology, case-management systems, and automation tools.
• Travel as necessary to fulfill business requirements.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in insurance defense litigation as a practicing attorney.
• Proven experience in independently managing cases from inception through trial or hearing and appeal.
• Excellent communication skills for effectively presenting litigated matters to varied audiences.
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients, and business partners.
• Strong skills in persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy.
• Proficient legal research abilities and adeptness in utilizing technology.
• Capacity to manage multiple priorities with a focus on detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
• Strong decision-making abilities and negotiation skills.
• Adaptable and open-minded with a readiness to embrace new challenges.
• Juris Doctorate or an equivalent international legal qualification.
• Graduate from an accredited law school.
• At least 2 years of experience working as a practicing attorney.
• Active legal license in good standing in the state(s) where representation is required.
• Regularly participates in hearings, trials, dispositive-motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings.
• Willingness to travel for necessary meetings and proceedings.
• A valid driver’s license is required depending on the location.
