Privacy Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Keep track of global privacy and data protection advancements and convert enforcement trends into practical guidance.

• Evaluate and provide recommendations on new products and business ventures within e-commerce, advertising, health, and AI-focused product lines.

• Create privacy frameworks for the utilization of advertising data, audience targeting, measurement, consent, and limitations on sensitive data.

• Analyze and oversee data-sharing agreements with retail partners, advertisers, vendors, and subsidiaries.

• Establish and uphold Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), and mechanisms for cross-border transfers including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and the Data Privacy Framework (DPF).

• Assist with Privacy Risk Assessments (PRAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).

• Enhance privacy intake and documentation procedures.

• Develop scalable privacy guidance, templates, playbooks, and training materials.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a prestigious law school.

• Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar; California membership is required or the ability to register as in-house counsel.

• Over 6 years of experience specializing in privacy and data protection.

• Extensive working knowledge of CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, and the evolving privacy and health data laws across U.S. states.

• Experience providing counsel on adtech, data sharing, and consumer data usage in retail, e-commerce, or platform settings.

• Capability to interpret complex legal mandates into actionable, business-focused advice for non-legal stakeholders.
