VP, International Communications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and uphold Solana’s overarching narrative centered around a select few defensible claims.

• Cultivate and personally nurture relationships with top-tier media across U.S. business, finance, technology, and crypto-native outlets.

• Take charge of reputation management and issue resolution during network incidents, client bugs, application-layer exploits, validator disputes, and other critical situations.

• Set up severity tiers, designate decision-makers, establish rehearsed processes, and prepare pre-drafted response messaging.

• Offer executive positioning and communications guidance to Foundation leadership.

• Assemble a network of credible external technical experts who can articulate and advocate for Solana.

• Assist ecosystem teams with product launches, media training for founders, and development of shared narrative frameworks.

• Translate protocol and governance modifications for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Collaborate with Policy and Legal teams on regulatory and legislative matters, including initiatives alongside the Solana Policy Institute.

• Create a measurement framework concentrating on narrative accuracy and reputation results.

⛳️ Requirements

• Approximately 10 to 15 years of experience in communications, particularly in high-scrutiny environments.

• Personal experience managing a situation where the facts were ambiguous, time-sensitive, and where an incorrect statement could exacerbate the issue.

• Established relationships with leading business, finance, and technology journalists.

• Capability to engage in technical discussions with engineers and produce content that is accurate, reliable, and comprehensible to non-technical audiences.

• Proven experience in securing coverage on challenging stories without a news hook.

• History of influencing outcomes rather than relying solely on authority within coalitions, consortia, federated organizations, or open-source initiatives.

• Practical communications skills, including the drafting of statements.

• Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.

• Proficiency with AI tools for monitoring, research, drafting, message testing, and adversarial review.

• Experience in communicating about decentralized or multi-stakeholder systems is an advantage.

• Experience in diplomatically saying no to a principal while maintaining the relationship is a plus.

• Experience in establishing a communications function is an additional advantage.

• Informed opinions and perspectives on effective crypto communications are a bonus.
