
VP, In-House Counsel – Litigation & Foreclosure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee and manage the Bank's portfolio of commercial and consumer litigation cases, encompassing foreclosure, bankruptcy, collections, and associated proceedings.
• Lead and direct external counsel, focusing on budget management, strategy formulation, and litigation oversight.
• Assess legal risks, propose litigation strategies, and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on contentious matters.
• Collaborate with lending, credit, special assets, and servicing teams to address problematic loans and optimize recoveries.
• Review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and correspondence related to litigation.
• Offer legal advice on foreclosure processes, creditor rights, workouts, loan enforcement, and bankruptcy issues.
• Assist in responding to subpoenas, discovery demands, and governmental inquiries.
• Keep abreast of legal changes that could influence lending, collections, foreclosure practices, and creditor remedies.
• Contribute to enterprise risk management initiatives and legal compliance efforts.
• Execute other assigned tasks as necessary.
• Travel to client offices, potential clients, branches, and industry events as required.
• No managerial duties involved.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active legal practice license in any U.S. jurisdiction.
• Preference for Connecticut bar admission or eligibility for admission in Connecticut.
• 3–5 years of pertinent legal experience, ideally with a law firm, financial institution, mortgage servicer, or in creditor's rights practice.
• Experience in handling or managing foreclosure, bankruptcy, creditors' rights, collections, or commercial litigation cases.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to independently manage a substantial portfolio of cases while prioritizing effectively.
• Strong judgment and a practical, business-focused perspective on legal matters.
• Effective and clear communicator.
• Team-oriented with a collaborative spirit.
• Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
• Experience supporting financial institutions, payment companies, FinTech organizations, or consumer financial services businesses is preferred.
• Familiarity with credit card, prepaid card, debit card, ACH, RTP, or other payment systems is advantageous.
• Working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including TILA/Regulation Z, EFTA/Regulation E, UDAAP, BSA/AML, CARD Act, CFPB guidance and regulations, payment-network rules, and state money transmission and consumer protection laws is preferred.
• Experience in reviewing technology, SaaS, data-sharing, or vendor agreements is a plus.
