VP, Foundation Relations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and execute tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of foundations capable of making seven- and eight-figure donations.

• Identify and forge significant new partnerships with foundations that align with Covenant House's mission, strategic priorities, and programmatic goals.

• Enhance and elevate an existing portfolio through increased grants, multi-year commitments, and heightened institutional investments.

• Oversee complex foundation relationships from the qualification stage through solicitation and stewardship.

• Develop and sustain a pipeline of high-capacity institutional prospects.

• Lead solicitation efforts and funding discussions related to major initiatives, strategic priorities, capital requirements, research, advocacy, and international programs.

• Achieve or surpass annual targets for revenue, proposals, and foundation engagement.

• Monitor trends in foundation funding and identify opportunities for new support.

• Cultivate relationships with foundation presidents, executive directors, trustees, family office representatives, program officers, and philanthropic advisors.

• Organize site visits, funder briefings, impact discussions, and executive engagement.

• Provide stewardship that demonstrates impact, accountability, and alignment with funder priorities.

• Collaborate with grant writers and cross-functional teams to create proposals, reports, funding frameworks, and cases for support.

• Work together with senior leaders and subject matter experts to enhance cultivation and solicitation initiatives.

• Coordinate executive leadership and board participation in foundation relationships.

• Contribute to the institutional fundraising strategy of Covenant House and enhance systems and best practices for Foundation Relations.

• Represent Covenant House in external environments in a professional manner.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising.

• Extensive experience in foundation relations and institutional giving.

• Proven history of securing multiple grants and commitments of $1 million or more from private foundations.

• Demonstrated success in managing and growing portfolios of foundation prospects and funders.

• Experience in obtaining new foundation funding and expanding investments from current partners.

• Experience in crafting and implementing complex cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

• Proven ability to identify and develop new foundation funding opportunities.

• Demonstrated success in generating substantial new revenue from foundations.

• Experience in collaborating with executive leaders, board members, program staff, and cross-functional fundraising teams.

• Ability to work independently, proactively identify opportunities, and consistently meet ambitious fundraising goals with minimal supervision.

• Willingness and capability to travel as necessary.

• Expertise in foundation relations and institutional fundraising.

• Strong understanding of the landscapes of international, national, regional, family, and independent foundations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of proposal development, grant budgeting, stewardship, and reporting requirements.

• Excellent skills in proposal development, writing, editing, and presentations.

• Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
