Vice President – Collection & Processing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and manage the development, growth, and enhancement of recycling collection and processing systems.

• Create and execute material-specific collection and processing strategies, long-term roadmaps, and investment plans.

• Collaborate with Program Planning and Operations teams on regulatory objectives, exemptions, source reduction initiatives, and PCR targets.

• Partner with MRFs, secondary processors, and compost facilities to identify best practices in sortation and implement system improvements.

• Apply processing solutions to enhance bale quality and stimulate third-party collection and sortation investments.

• Assist in state program plans, coordinated action plans, operational plans, budgets, and state-level investments.

• Engage with recycling and materials trade associations, service providers, and other key stakeholders.

• Develop materials intelligence and oversee waste characterization protocols across various states.

• Establish and manage budgets for materials strategy, collection, and processing initiatives.

• Support collection and processing for reusable and refillable packaging in collaboration with source reduction teams.

• Supervise, manage, delegate tasks, and inspire a team of industry professionals.

• Set annual objectives, lead team meetings, provide guidance, ensure statements of work are established, conduct performance evaluations, and handle related HR responsibilities.

• Report directly to the Chief of Staff at Circular Action Alliance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field.

• A minimum of 10 years of operational experience in MRFs or recycling facilities.

• At least 3 years of experience in team management.

• Comprehensive knowledge of recycling collection, processing, and waste characterization principles and practices.

• Proven experience in implementing sortation enhancements and increasing collection through various channels.

• Demonstrated ability in creating roadmaps, strategies, and operational plans to achieve long-term objectives.

• Strong understanding of Extended Producer Responsibility.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity to interpret complex data and derive actionable insights.

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders at all organizational levels.

• Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance.

• Ability to build, develop, lead, and engage high-performing teams, including managing direct or indirect reports and remote employees.

• Capability to thrive in a dynamic environment that demands rapid pace and flexibility.

• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
