This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes across all legal entities, which includes managing the general ledger, consolidation, intercompany transactions, and chart of accounts.
• Lead the technical accounting processes for mortgage banking instruments, covering loans held for sale, mortgage servicing rights, interest rate lock commitments, hedge positions, and loan sale and transfer accounting in accordance with ASC 860.
• Collaborate with Capital Markets and Secondary teams on gain-on-sale, hedge results, and pair-offs.
• Reconcile loan origination and servicing systems with the general ledger at the individual loan level.
• Oversee repurchase and representation-and-warranty reserves, including supporting assumptions, models, and documentation.
• Manage SEC reporting responsibilities, including 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K filings, XBRL tagging, and support for the disclosure committee.
• Act as the primary resource for Audit Committee inquiries related to accounting matters.
• Execute SOX and internal control design, documentation, testing, and remediation for financial reporting.
• Coordinate with internal audit and external auditors.
• Supervise regulatory and counterparty reporting, which includes agency seller/servicer requirements, HUD/FHA audited financials, state licensing filings, NMLS Mortgage Call Reports, and facility covenant certificates.
• Manage accounting for stock-based compensation, equity instruments, leases, fixed assets, payroll, accounts payable, and the coordination of the income tax provision.
• Compose technical accounting memoranda and defend accounting positions during audits.
• Partner with FP&A for budget-versus-actual reviews, forecasting, and long-term planning.
• Develop and expand the accounting team across the US and India.
• Enhance the speed, accuracy, automation, and quality of data during the closing process by collaborating with Operations, Capital Markets, and Engineering.
• Must possess an active CPA certification.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including time spent in public accounting at a Big 4 or national firm as well as industry experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in mortgage banking, specialty finance, or financial services accounting.
• Hands-on experience with loans held for sale, mortgage servicing rights, interest rate lock commitments, hedging, and gain-on-sale transactions.
• Previous roles as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Director of Accounting at an SEC registrant are necessary.
• Must have personal accountability for SEC reporting and SOX 404 compliance.
• Over 5 years of experience in leading accounting teams, including managing other managers.
• Strong technical judgment in relation to ASC 860, ASC 815, ASC 820, ASC 825, and ASC 718.
• Proven ability to enhance an accounting function through system implementations, acceleration of closing processes, or automation of reconciliations.
• High integrity and sound judgment when it comes to escalation.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous, and rapidly changing business environments.
• Experience with public company transitions, ERP implementations or optimizations, securitizations, MSR sales or financing, or oversight of sub-servicers and servicing accounting is advantageous.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
