This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.
• Lead the comprehensive Accounting Department across the organization and uphold the integrity of accounting data.
• Generate high-quality financial reports for various stakeholders.
• Oversee daily accounting operations for financial transactions at headquarters.
• Create, implement, and ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures in line with US GAAP.
• Maintain and continually enhance the financial control system.
• Supervise general accounting, investment accounting, subgranting, grantmaking, tax-exempt compliance, banking, payroll, and employee benefits.
• Oversee accounting operations for Asylum Access Mexico, Asylum Access Malaysia, and Asylum Access Thailand.
• Conduct bank reconciliations, accrual accounting, prepayment accounting, and manage intercompany transaction accounting.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of finance and accounting operations for both internal and external reporting purposes.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closing processes.
• Prepare journal entries, make accounting corrections, and reconcile the general ledger.
• Develop and document business processes, accounting policies, and internal controls.
• Supervise accounts, ledgers, reporting systems, chart of accounts, vendor lists, and accounting system reports.
• Collaborate with departmental leaders to determine accounting information and reporting requirements.
• Assist in cash flow projections and the preparation of the cash flow statement.
• Oversee the annual US audit from initiation to completion, coordinating audit schedules and corrective actions.
• Manage quarterly internal audits for subsidiaries and follow up on the findings.
• Provide assistance with tax returns, including IRS 990, NY 500, California filings, and Form 941 reconciliation.
• Supervise national-level external audits.
• Implement recommendations from auditors.
• Assist in administering the accounting system effectively.
• Develop and implement ongoing financial and accounting training for staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Report directly to the Director of Finance and Operations at Asylum Access.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• CPA certification or an equivalent credential.
• Proven knowledge of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) specifically for Nonprofits.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience in private corporations or public charity environments.
• Proficiency in using a computerized accounting system, particularly Microsoft Dynamics.
• Strong command of MS Office applications, with a required proficiency in Excel.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to take ownership of projects, effectively manage multiple deadlines, and work with high attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across organizational functions and levels, as well as with external partners, while respecting and adapting to diverse cultures and languages.

• Must be based in Mexico.
