Visiting Professor of Software Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Instruct undergraduate and graduate students in software development courses.

• Support student learning in line with the standards of DeVry University.

• Create course syllabi and lesson plans that align with both course and program objectives.

• Organize, prepare, update, and revise course materials as necessary.

• Utilize online technologies and course-related software, such as websites, email, and online discussions.

• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

• Establish course expectations, terminal objectives, assignment and exam schedules, and evaluation criteria.

• Ensure that exams are in alignment with course terminal objectives.

• Consistently and fairly prepare and grade exams.

• Provide prompt feedback to students on their performance.

• Effectively incorporate AI technologies into classroom teaching and learning.

• Assess and manage appropriate and inappropriate student use of AI tools.

• Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A doctorate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline is mandatory.

• A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in software development, programming, software engineering, or related computing fields.

• Unofficial graduate-level transcripts must be submitted with the application.

• Degrees must be conferred by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or by an international institution deemed to have equivalent accreditation.

• Three to five years of relevant professional experience in software development, software engineering, application development, or similar programming roles.

• Proven experience with modern programming languages, development frameworks, and software engineering practices, including design, development, testing, and deployment.

• Possession of industry-recognized certifications or professional credentials related to programming, software engineering, or application development.

• Strong knowledge of software development principles.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clarify complex programming and development concepts for diverse learners.

• Understanding of secure coding practices, software lifecycle management, and quality assurance methodologies, including testing, debugging, and version control.

• Additional requirements may be dictated by state licensing, institutional policy, or accreditation standards.

• A commitment to continuous professional development in instructional technology, digital literacy, and responsible AI practices.

• Preferred: Industry certifications in programming or software development technologies, such as Python, Java, or .NET.

• Preferred: Experience with Agile, Scrum, test-driven development, and iterative design methodologies.

• Preferred: Familiarity with DevSecOps, continuous integration, continuous delivery pipelines, automated testing, and version control platforms.

• Preferred: Experience in designing and developing full-stack applications, including front-end interfaces, back-end services, and database integration.

• Preferred: Involvement with accreditation processes, outcomes assessment, curriculum mapping, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Preferred: Active participation in professional software development or computing organizations.

• Preferred: Experience in integrating development environments, collaborative coding platforms, and project-based software development labs into post-secondary education.

• Preferred: Two to five years of teaching experience in a post-secondary setting.
