Vice President, Philanthropic Advising

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture the high-performing Philanthropic Advising department at Third Plateau.

• Contribute to the team's growth and ongoing development.

• Cultivate new business opportunities and manage a select portfolio of client relationships and engagements.

• Provide strategic leadership on a day-to-day basis for the Philanthropic Advising team.

• Foster a department culture and create operating structures that encourage connection, collaboration, learning, and shared accountability.

• Supervise and mentor team members through coaching, constructive feedback, and support for professional growth.

• Assist in determining staffing, resource allocation, and team structures.

• Ensure the department is equipped with the necessary tools, processes, and resources for effective operation.

• Identify emerging needs and opportunities within the philanthropic landscape and adapt approaches and processes accordingly.

• Serve as a member of the Nonprofits & Philanthropy Division Leadership Team and collaborate with departmental and divisional leaders.

• Develop and promote a vision for the philanthropy department.

• Encourage shared and continuous learning within the department.

• Contribute to thought leadership and engage in external-facing opportunities.

• Manage relationships with philanthropic clients, including individuals, families, foundations, and other philanthropic institutions.

• Lead specific engagements and provide strategic counsel on philanthropic strategies, program development, and impact opportunities.

• Identify client needs and opportunities to deepen Third Plateau’s partnerships and impact.

• Build relationships with prospective clients and referral partners.

• Develop a pipeline of potential engagements and support proposal development and discussions with prospective clients.

• Translate emerging philanthropic needs into new services, products, partnerships, or areas of expertise.

• Represent Third Plateau in professional networks, public speaking engagements, convenings, publications, and other opportunities to enhance visibility.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in philanthropy, including substantial experience in a senior leadership role.

• Proven experience in leading and developing high-performing teams, including managing senior professionals.

• Significant experience advising philanthropists, family foundations, and other philanthropic institutions, particularly on complex strategic questions.

• Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills.

• Experience in contributing to or leading business development efforts, including relationship cultivation, proposal development, and converting opportunities into engagements.

• Strong understanding of the philanthropic landscape and the ability to translate emerging trends, research, and ideas into practical implications for clients and colleagues.

• Operational and financial acumen, with experience in resource allocation and budget management.

• A deep commitment to social impact, with strong alignment to the organization’s mission and values.

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred; an advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
