
Verification Scientist I, GHG Forestry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Serve as the lead auditor conducting assessments under both voluntary and compliance carbon offset standards.
β’ Evaluate management practices and project documentation for carbon initiatives.
β’ Analyze documents and perform quantitative evaluations, including inventory calculations, forest growth and yield models, GIS, and/or remote sensing data.
β’ Carry out site visits, conduct interviews with project staff, perform site reconnaissance, and assess forest inventory methodologies.
β’ Generate verification findings and compose detailed technical audit reports.
β’ Supervise contract auditors and consultants.
β’ Facilitate audit processes in collaboration with clients.
β’ Ensure that clients supply required data and information.
β’ Address client inquiries and concerns promptly.
β’ Manage multiple audits simultaneously.
β’ Stay updated on program standards and protocols.
β’ Suggest and apply program modifications to uphold ISO quality compliance.
β’ Engage in internal and external audit activities.
β’ Assist in training staff as well as contract auditors and consultants.
β’ Execute work related to forestry and land-use projects, including improved forest management, afforestation/reforestation, REDD+, wetlands, mangroves, soil carbon, and landscape-level sustainability initiatives globally.
β’ Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or a related scientific discipline.
β’ Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a relevant field.
β’ Familiarity with standard forest inventory methods in fieldwork.
β’ Experience with field measurement techniques.
β’ Proficient in ArcGIS and/or remote sensing software.
β’ Strong quantitative abilities.
β’ Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
β’ High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access.
β’ Capacity to work independently under pressure within a dynamic environment.
β’ Adaptability and responsiveness in a team setting.
β’ Willingness to travel domestically for audit purposes.
β’ Preferred: Master's Degree or higher in a relevant scientific field.
β’ Preferred: Quantitative skills focusing on biometrics, statistics, and growth and yield modeling.
β’ Preferred: Experience in financial analysis and/or natural resource economics.
β’ Preferred: California Registered Professional Forester or another Certified Forester credential.
β’ Preferred: ARB-accredited Lead Verifier for the Compliance Offset Protocol - US Forest Projects.
β’ Preferred: CAR Lead Verifier.
β’ Remote, home-office based position.
