Variant Assessment Scientist I – Cardiology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +34 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct analysis of variants in diagnostic molecular genetic test outcomes.

• Assess published literature, clinical data, and both functional and in silico information for clinical interpretation.

• Compose and interpret molecular test results, including reviews and summaries of medical literature.

• Collaborate with medical professionals and both internal and external colleagues to write research articles.

• Engage in the revision of variant classification guidelines and the creation of gene-specific classification standards.

• Investigate innovative methods for evaluating sequence variants.

• Oversee and adhere to variant pre-classification workflow protocols to optimize reporting within established turnaround times.

• Mentor new members of the variant team or clinical team.

• Carry out additional tasks assigned by the supervisor/manager and take on increased responsibilities as seniority grows.

⛳️ Requirements

• A PhD and/or MD with specialization in molecular genetics, human genetics, molecular pathology, or a related discipline is required.

• Consideration may also be given to candidates with an MS in molecular biology, genetics, or a related field, provided they demonstrate exceptional expertise and outstanding job performance.

• At least 2 years of experience in variant assessment is required.

• Comprehensive and ongoing understanding of current theories and principles in human genetics.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities are essential.

• A willingness and capability to thrive in and contribute to a dynamic, collaborative environment is necessary.

• Preferred prior experience in variant assessment and reporting specialty.

• Experience in cardiology is preferred.

• Industry experience is preferred.
