Variant Assessment Scientist I – Cardiology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +34 more states.

📋 Description

• Assess variants derived from diagnostic molecular genetic test outcomes

• Analyze existing literature, clinical records, functional data, and in silico data

• Deliver precise, comprehensive, and insightful clinical interpretations of results

• Collaborate with medical professionals and both internal and external colleagues to write research articles

• Compose and interpret molecular test findings, including reviews and summaries of medical literature

• Engage in the refinement of variant classification guidelines and the creation of gene-specific classification protocols

• Investigate innovative methods for evaluating sequence variants

• Oversee and adhere to variant pre-classification workflow guidelines to ensure timely reporting within established turnaround times

• Mentor new members of the variant team or clinical team

• Undertake additional duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager and accept responsibilities with increasing seniority

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD and/or MD with specialization in molecular genetics, human genetics, molecular pathology, or a related discipline

• MS in molecular biology, genetics, or a similar field with exceptional expertise and exemplary job performance may also be considered

• At least 2 years of experience in variant evaluation

• Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current theories and principles in human genetics

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

• Eagerness and capability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment

• Previous experience in variant assessment and reporting specialty is preferred

• Experience in cardiology is preferred

• Relevant industry experience
