Test Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Shape User Story definitions and acceptance criteria to guarantee that requirements are explicit, measurable, and verifiable.

• Engage in requirements analysis, design reviews, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and various Agile ceremonies.

• Create, develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for web applications, APIs, services, and database-driven applications.

• Formulate Test Approaches, Test Plans, and automation strategies.

• Construct and uphold reusable automated test frameworks and test components.

• Identify candidates for automation and enhance automated regression coverage.

• Integrate automated test execution within CI/CD pipelines.

• Perform system integration, functional, regression, API, end-to-end, performance, accessibility, and release validation testing.

• Collaborate with Product, Development, Business Analysis, DevSecOps, Architecture, and testing teams.

• Utilize test management, automation, API, performance, and defect management tools for planning, traceability, execution, reporting, documentation, and metrics.

• Develop and implement automated REST and SOAP web-service tests.

• Validate API requests, responses, authentication, error handling, business rules, and integration points.

• Conduct database validation using SQL and PL/SQL.

• Ensure comprehensive coverage of positive, negative, boundary, exception, and error-path scenarios.

• Analyze automated test failures and pinpoint application, data, environment, dependency, or script issues.

• Document, track, manage, reproduce, and retest defects until resolution.

• Develop and maintain test data.

• Assist in configuring test environments and resolving environment-related issues.

• Support the creation of test documentation, scripts, test cases, test data, traceability artifacts, and execution evidence.

• Conduct root-cause analysis and compile lessons learned.

• Develop and utilize quality and automation metrics.

• Enhance test efficiency through automation, reusable components, test-data management, and earlier testing.

• Assist with performance/load testing and analyze system behavior under expected and peak workloads.

• Support Section 508 accessibility testing.

• Aid in sprint demonstrations, User Acceptance Testing, production readiness, and release validation.

• Seek and integrate feedback from FDA stakeholders.

• Participate in release/deployment validation, smoke testing, and post-deployment verification.

• Advocate for continuous improvement of quality engineering practices, standards, tools, frameworks, and processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, along with 8 years of professional experience.

• 4 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree.

• Four additional years of relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, quality engineering practices, and the Software Development Lifecycle.

• Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks.

• Proficient in automating web-based applications using Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, Cypress, UFT, or similar technologies.

• Experience with Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C#, or comparable automation programming/scripting languages.

• Proven experience developing automated tests for REST and SOAP APIs using SoapUI, ReadyAPI, Postman/Newman, REST Assured, or similar technologies.

• Experience in performing integration and system-level testing for enterprise applications.

• Knowledge of service-oriented architecture, RESTful services, APIs, microservices, and database-centric applications.

• Experience in developing operational scenarios, test scenarios, test cases, automated scripts, Test Plans, Test Approaches, and Test Reports.

• Proficient in SQL and relational databases for test validation, troubleshooting, and data verification.

• Experience testing integrated applications involving multiple systems, APIs, databases, and external interfaces.

• Familiarity with JIRA, Azure DevOps, HP ALM/Quality Center, or similar defect tracking and test case management tools.

• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable platforms.

• Proficient in using Git or another source control system.

• Understanding of test automation architecture, framework design, reusable test components, data-driven testing, and automated regression strategies.

• Ability to create positive, negative, exception, and error-path tests.

• Capability to analyze automated test failures, application logs, API responses, and database results to identify defects.

• Demonstrated experience contributing to Agile teams.

• Experience testing with end users or business stakeholders during Agile demonstrations, User Acceptance Testing, or pre-deployment acceptance activities.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Agile development team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to communicate testing status, defects, risks, dependencies, and quality concerns to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
