Senior Software Engineer – QA / Test Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Establish and uphold the testing strategy and plans for the platform's web portals, backend services, and external integrations.

• Develop and sustain automated end-to-end suites for the public citizen portal and staff operations console.

• Create and manage automated API testing coverage for the platform's microservices.

• Assess dynamic intake forms and business rule outcomes through data-driven regression test suites.

• Examine payment, notification, and document upload processes, including webhook and failure scenarios.

• Incorporate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines and provide reports on coverage and release quality.

• Assist in performance and load testing for high-traffic endpoints such as public license searches.

• Expand automation coverage to the React Native field inspection application.

• Facilitate UAT cycles, defect triage, and sign-off on release readiness.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in QA and test automation.

• Proven experience in testing cloud-hosted, service-based applications within production environments.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

• Expertise in web end-to-end test automation using Playwright or a similar framework (such as Cypress or Selenium).

• Proficiency in API test automation for REST services (like REST Assured, Karate, or Postman/Newman).

• Skills in test strategy formulation, test case design, and defect lifecycle management.

• Experience in manual and exploratory testing in addition to automation.

• Proficiency in SQL for test data preparation and validation (specifically PostgreSQL).

• Experience in testing asynchronous, event-driven behavior (including queues, webhooks, and scheduled jobs).

• Ability to integrate automated testing suites into CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience in mobile test automation for React Native (using Detox, Maestro, or Appium).

• Capabilities in performance and load testing (with tools like k6, JMeter, or Gatling).

• Knowledge of accessibility testing (WCAG 2.1 AA).

• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services.

• Experience working in government or regulated environments.

• Background in testing workflow or rules-driven systems (such as BPMN engines or decision tables).
