Temporary Assignment Desk Editor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee NewsNation's national assignment desk across various shifts.

• Identify news stories that will engage a national audience.

• Research stories, connect with sources to verify information, and report on findings.

• Collect editorial materials such as video, audio, and images.

• Coordinate the coverage of daily, breaking, and ongoing news stories in collaboration with correspondents, producers, and photojournalists.

• Maintain regular communication with field teams to provide support and confirm live appearances.

• Monitor social media and manage user-generated content.

• Observe competitive broadcasts, cable, and digital channels.

• Collaborate with Nexstar TV stations to leverage additional reporting resources and story components, while providing NewsNation content to these stations.

• Arrange for the booking of transmission facilities and satellite space for live or taped feeds as necessary.

• Use file-sharing platforms to compile video materials.

• Adhere to and communicate Rights and Clearances restrictions.

• Assist in the preparation of editorial and logistics notes for newsgathering and show teams.

• Carry out other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

• Five to ten years of newsroom experience, preferably in national news or a leading local market.

• Must be willing to work extended or adjusted shifts as news developments require.

• Availability to work weekdays and holidays as necessary.

• Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Keen attention to detail.

• Excellent communication abilities.

• Must join the News Guild upon hiring.
