This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +4 more states.
• Oversee the peer review and editorial functions of the journal.
• Supervise the editorial support vendor, ensuring compliance with peer review and production standards.
• Manage solicited content for CANCER from the initial acquisition stage to submission.
• Oversee revenue-generating supplements and special issues from the proposal phase to online publication.
• Assist authors, agencies, and funders throughout the publication process.
• Collaborate with the CANCER Editor-in-Chief on letters to the editor and appeals regarding decisions.
• Monitor and assess peer review, production/publication, competition, and additional data.
• Calculate semiannual honoraria payments for editors.
• Prepare reports for annual, quarterly, and ad hoc meetings.
• Provide recommendations and implement modifications based on data evaluation.
• Manage and triage communications directed to the CANCER Editorial Office.
• Gather annual conflict of interest disclosures from members of the Editorial Board.
• Copyedit and proofread essential materials.
• Oversee the journal's online platforms and offer feedback to the publisher.
• Review manuscript data and reports to ensure a consistent content pipeline.
• Conduct monthly meetings to strategize content.
• Implement process changes mandated by the publisher.
• Screen submitted images to detect inappropriate alterations.
• Lead journal user engagement initiatives alongside the Research Engagement Manager, incorporating short-form videos, podcasts, infographics, and visual abstracts.
• Provide operational and administrative support, including managing invoices, honoraria, contract payments, correspondence, and group calendars.
• Organize and oversee logistics, travel arrangements, and communication for journal annual meetings.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• At least 3 years of experience with web-based peer review systems, peer review processes, and editorial practices for scholarly journals.
• Experience interacting with scientific researchers or physicians.
• Outstanding problem-solving abilities with the capacity to make informed, independent decisions.
• Proficient in analyzing and reporting both quantitative and qualitative data.
• Ability to distill complex or technical information into key points relevant to specific audiences.
• Persistent, adaptable, resourceful, and detail-oriented with a commitment to deadlines.
• Ability to offer courteous and effective customer service.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
• Quick learner of new computer programs.
• Established organizational and time management skills.
• Capability to represent ACS at conferences and other events.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of experience with digital artwork and video editing in Adobe Creative Cloud for social media.
• Preferred: Knowledge of publication embargoes and press releases.
• Preferred: Comfortable presenting to large audiences, including leadership-level individuals.
• Preferred: Awareness of current issues and trends in scholarly publishing.
• Preferred: Experience in proofreading and familiarity with the AMA Manual of Style and AP Stylebook.
