Associate Editor – Life Sciences

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +9 more locations.

📋 Description

• Oversee the editorial workflow for manuscripts submitted to PLOS journals.

• Leverage prior research experience, critical assessment skills, and internal protocols to make informed and complex editorial decisions.

• Act as a point of escalation for intricate and nuanced editorial inquiries.

• Collaborate with various teams at PLOS, editorial board members, and external editorial teams to maintain high standards of scientific rigor and editorial integrity.

• Assess submissions and make decisions based on the feedback provided by reviewers.

• Engage in initiatives to develop editorial policy and enhance the visibility and reputation of journals within the PLOS portfolio.

• Address queries related to publication ethics.

• Cultivate relationships within the academic community.

• Exhibit a positive and constructive attitude towards change and maintain a growth mindset.

• Collaborate with colleagues in the division and across teams to execute developmental and promotional activities for PLOS journals.

• Experience in a research setting, publishing, or a related field.

• Highly organized and efficient, demonstrating strong critical evaluation and problem-solving capabilities.

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to perform under tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality and accuracy.

• Competence to prioritize tasks and work independently.

• A PhD is mandatory.

• Must be able to spend extended periods stationary at a desk and working on a computer.

• Occasional national and international travel may be required.

• Flexibility to work across different time zones is necessary.
