This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Edit technical brochures, standard operating procedures, research reports, technical summaries, and various highly technical documents for the Federal Highway Administration to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
• Convert raw data and engineering jargon into authoritative, publication-ready documents that adhere to agency standards.
• Conduct reference checks, fact-checking, and ensure copyright compliance.
• Utilize the GPO Style Manual and the Chicago Manual of Style to maintain consistency across documents.
• Integrate intricate schematics and data tables seamlessly with narrative text.
• Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and technical personnel to effectively communicate complex technical concepts.
• Independently oversee assigned documents from initial outline to final publication, including online and web publishing.
• Execute copyediting, proofreading, substantive editing, rewriting, and formatting for both print and electronic deliverables.
• Rectify grammar, spelling, punctuation, and logical-flow inaccuracies.
• Ensure all deliverables meet Section 508 accessibility requirements and conform to the TFHRC R&D Communication Reference Guide.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing or documentation.
• Preferred experience in highway or surface transportation research.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, or a closely related scientific or technical field.
• Expert-level proficiency with the GPO Style Manual.
• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Proven experience in ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance for technical publications.
• Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to marketing trends and technologies.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Experience supporting complex projects and transformation initiatives within the federal government.
• Comfortable in managing intricate client relationships.
• Capability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Strong analytical and time-management abilities.
• Competent in organizing, prioritizing, and collaborating with others.
• Proficient in articulating thoughts, ideas, and solutions clearly, both in writing and verbally.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced setting.
• Capable of receiving client feedback and implementing changes swiftly and effectively.
• Quick to understand complex issues.
• Enthusiastic about working in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
• Contingent hire position with offers subject to client approval, security requirements, and on-site specifications at contract award.
• Remote work is anticipated.
• Occasional travel for client engagements may be necessary.
