Technical Business Specialist – Senior Business Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +8 more states.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Midstream Control Center, IT, and Shared Services to pinpoint, evaluate, and prioritize opportunities across Midstream.

• Perform field and business evaluations of processes, workflows, system utilization, data dependencies, and operational challenges.

• Analyze and assess As-Is and To-Be processes, identifying opportunities for standardization, simplification, automation, and technology enablement.

• Convert operational and business requirements into business specifications, functional requirements, use cases, process designs, and implementation priorities.

• Gather, analyze, and interpret operational, asset, and system data to uncover performance gaps, root causes, trends, and improvement opportunities.

• Assist technology initiatives related to SCADA, EAM/Maximo, operational analytics, workflow solutions, system integrations, and emerging technologies.

• Create metrics, KPIs, dashboards, and performance measures linked to measurable operational outcomes.

• Assess automation, advanced analytics, condition monitoring, and other capabilities to enhance efficiency, reliability, visibility, and decision-making.

• Foster relationships with field crews, engineers, planners, control center staff, technology teams, and other stakeholders.

• Lead cross-functional working sessions, align stakeholders, address process or technology gaps, and facilitate the implementation of initiatives.

• Promote data quality, governance, and standardization across Midstream systems.

• Aid in business cases, solution evaluations, implementation planning, testing, change management, and user adoption.

• Prepare reports, analyses, presentations, and recommendations for Midstream leadership.

• Monitor initiative progress, risks, dependencies, benefits, and outcomes.

• Prioritize high-value opportunities within a portfolio while balancing immediate needs with long-term technology and Operational Excellence strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, business, engineering, or a related field is required.

• 3-5+ years of experience in Midstream, pipeline, or upstream oil & gas operations.

• Ability to communicate effectively in the context of field operations, beyond just abstract business analysis.

• Direct experience with at least one of the following: SCADA systems, EAM/Maximo, or operational data platforms in an industrial setting.

• Proven experience in mapping current-state ("As-Is") and future-state ("To-Be") business processes.

• A history of translating operational or field requirements into formal business, functional requirements, or use cases.

• Experience in conducting or facilitating cross-functional requirements-gathering sessions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proficient in working directly with operational or asset data; cleaning, analyzing, and deriving insights.

• Experience in developing or contributing to KPIs, metrics, or performance dashboards tied to business results.

• Familiarity with practical concepts of data quality and governance, including ownership, standards, and trust.
