Tech Lead – Event-Driven Architecture

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and provide direction for architectural decisions across various engineering workstreams, ensuring alignment with the overarching event-driven platform strategy.

• Set and enforce standards for event-driven architecture, encompassing event infrastructure, schema management, messaging patterns, error handling, and standardized event structures.

• Define and uphold domain event contracts and schemas to guarantee consistency, compatibility, and scalability for both present and future platform capabilities.

• Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to formulate production rollout strategies, including traffic-ramp criteria, validation requirements, and stabilization periods.

• Advise on feature-flag and incremental deployment strategies to ensure services can be introduced, validated, and retracted safely without causing disruptive releases.

• Review and oversee schema and architectural modifications, ensuring compatibility, quality, and appropriate testing before changes are implemented across interconnected services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience in designing and implementing event-driven architectures on AWS, including technologies such as EventBridge, SQS, Step Functions, and Schema Registry.

• Demonstrated experience in leading incremental, feature-flagged migrations and modernizing legacy systems using strategies like the strangler-fig pattern while maintaining system availability.

• Strong comprehension of domain-driven event modeling, event contracts, and schema governance/versioning across multiple teams and services.

• Experience in providing technical leadership across various engineering teams or workstreams, which includes mentoring engineers, resolving cross-team dependencies, and overcoming complex technical challenges.

• Robust experience with architectural governance and technical standards, involving the review of design changes, establishment of engineering patterns, and ensuring uniformity across distributed services.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native architectures, particularly regarding asynchronous communication, service dependencies, fault tolerance, and reliable message processing.

• Proficiency in designing and integrating APIs and backend services within event-driven and service-oriented architectures.

• Excellent technical communication and decision-making abilities, capable of conveying architectural trade-offs and aligning engineers and stakeholders on technical direction.

• Experience in formulating safe deployment and rollout strategies, including feature flags, traffic ramping, validation criteria, and rollback strategies.

• Background in lending, financial services, fintech, or risk management is a plus.
