Senior Software Engineer – Layer1, C++

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Develop software to manage physical-layer connectivity ranging from 1GBASE-T connectors to 1.6T long-reach optics.

• Create control software that supports forwarding engines, connectors, and gearbox interface chips.

• Construct instrumentation and telemetry tools for monitoring and troubleshooting the health of physical links.

• Collaborate with Optics teams to establish standards for new media and facilitate their market introduction.

• Engage with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to develop Layer 1 features.

• Architect, design, and oversee feature development.

• Develop and maintain features utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Review and contribute to functional and design specifications.

• Build automated tests and establish test infrastructure.

• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to launch PHYs and transceivers into the market.

• Design software control interfaces for Layer 1 components alongside hardware engineers.

• Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.

• Analyze, mitigate, and resolve customer network issues in conjunction with Customer Support Engineers and customers.

• Analyze system-test issues and implement solutions.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.

• Own projects from their definition through deployment and customer interactions, ensuring quality delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree plus 6 years; or a Ph.D. with 3 years; or equivalent practical experience.

• Expert proficiency in C or C++ and Python.

• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.

• Practical understanding of software engineering principles.

• Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting abilities.

• Capability to independently design solutions and implement features.

• Ability to work effectively in small teams.

• Knowledge of digital communication technologies, such as modulation and signal encoding schemes, is advantageous.

• Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus.

• Experience with low-level hardware components is a plus.
