Systems Programmer – Mainframe Networking

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, manage, and support the networking infrastructure for IBM z/OS mainframe systems.

• Install, tailor, maintain, and apply updates to mainframe network software and related products.

• Diagnose intricate mainframe networking and middleware problems utilizing tools such as IPCS and packet traces.

• Conduct root cause analysis and deploy effective solutions.

• Address incidents, liaise with vendors, and resolve technical challenges.

• Monitor system performance, perform capacity planning, and implement tuning actions to adhere to SLAs.

• Establish and uphold security protocols in CA-ACF2, including AT-TLS configuration and certificate management.

• Lead and engage in software upgrades, hardware refreshes, disaster recovery planning, and exercises.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, and operations teams.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

• Maintain documentation covering system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting methods.

• Represent the Bank at vendor-sponsored conferences and provide thought leadership in technology.

• Participate in a 24/7 emergency on-call rotation.

• Identify and escalate issues related to risk.

• Uphold internal control standards and implement findings from audits and regulatory reviews.

• Complete other related tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A combined minimum of 7 years of higher education and/or relevant work experience.

• Expert knowledge of z/OS Communication Server, including VTAM, TCP/IP, FTP, SFTP, TLS/AT-TLS, OSA-Express, TN3270 Services, DNS, Enterprise Extender, and Connect:Direct (NDM).

• Comprehensive understanding of SMP/E and z/OSMF for software installation and maintenance.

• Proficiency in JCL, REXX, and CLIST.

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities for diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining intricate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong expertise in mainframe middleware, including IBM MQ Series on Z, CICS, and DB2 on Z.

• 7–9 years of experience in mainframe systems programming, emphasizing networking and middleware.

• Relevant certifications are advantageous.

• Capability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across various departments.

• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Ability to comply with banking risk, regulatory, audit, and control standards.
