This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Install, configure, maintain, and provide support for IBM z/OS operating systems and associated system software in both production and non-production settings.
• Plan and carry out z/OS upgrades, migrations, maintenance, and service implementation tasks using SMP/E and established change management protocols.
• Lead technical initiatives that support enterprise mainframe infrastructure, operating system software, subsystem integration, and core platform services.
• Engage in infrastructure modernization, resilience, automation, security, and performance enhancement projects.
• Conduct installation, service application, health checks, and validation testing of IBM and ISV software.
• Monitor system health, performance, and availability; identify trends, and propose enhancements.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve intricate system incidents utilizing traces, dumps, logs, vendor diagnostic tools, and problem-solving methodologies.
• Collaborate with IBM and third-party software vendors to troubleshoot problems, implement solutions, and verify resolutions.
• Provide support for Parallel Sysplex environments, system recovery processes, and disaster recovery functionalities.
• Develop and sustain automation solutions to enhance operational efficiency and system reliability.
• Engage in capacity planning and evaluate processor, memory, storage, and workload utilization.
• Schedule and carry out maintenance activities while minimizing operational risk and service interruptions.
• Offer after-hours support for planned implementations, maintenance, and urgent production incidents.
• Create and update technical documentation, standards, procedures, and operational run books.
• Mentor and train junior systems programmers while providing technical advice.
• Assess emerging technologies through vendor training, conferences, and industry events.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, architecture, application development, storage, and network teams.
• Analyze operational trends and recurring issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures.
• Ensure adherence to corporate policies, regulatory requirements, audit standards, and technology control frameworks.
• A combined minimum of 6 years of higher education and/or relevant work experience.
• At least 5 years of experience providing support for IBM z/OS operating systems in a large enterprise setting.
• Proficient in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting z/OS system software.
• Experience using SMP/E for software maintenance and lifecycle management.
• Background in supporting IBM Z hardware and operating system infrastructure.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a knack for diagnosing complex system issues.
• Experience in reading and interpreting technical documentation, dumps, traces, and diagnostic information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities in a mission-critical production environment.
• Proven experience leading technical projects and coordinating activities across various technology teams.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and train less experienced technical personnel.
