Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee system-level integration for advanced Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs)

• Take ownership of overall platform coherence from initial concept to final delivery for USV product development and enhancements

• Collaborate with diverse teams, including mechanical, electrical, control hardware, software, and testing throughout the entire lifecycle

• Establish system architecture and interfaces for both new and existing platforms

• Conduct technical trade studies, sizing evaluations, and system performance analyses

• Design communication pathways, distribution methods, and redundancy strategies

• Create layout and system design documentation

• Define Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and enforce interface management procedures

• Lead verification and validation (V&V) processes and acceptance testing

• Develop test plans and procedures, schedule and execute tests, and compile comprehensive written test reports

• Assist with bench assemblies and hardware integration

• Perform hands-on vessel testing, including VLOS/BVLOS assessments, at test facilities and customer locations

• Coordinate payload integration and tailor hardware or software interfaces with internal teams, suppliers, and clients

• Analyze test telemetry, identify trends and potential failure modes, and contribute to predictive maintenance and reliability enhancements

• Report directly to the Maritime Director

⛳️ Requirements

• Degree (or equivalent) in Systems, Maritime, Aerospace, Electrical, or a closely related engineering field

• Extensive industry experience with proven systems engineering responsibilities on complex autonomous systems platforms

• Strong hands-on experience in integrating complex systems, including power systems, RF/EMC, EO sensors, networking, embedded controllers, and payload interfaces

• Established history of applying V-Model methodologies within engineering design projects

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities

• Highly organized and attentive to detail

• Capability to function effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

• Willingness to travel within the UK/Europe for testing and integration purposes

• Ideally possess UK Security clearance or be eligible to obtain UK defense clearance

• Availability to travel to the South West England region when necessary

• Experience in maritime product development and knowledge of MCT/IMO/DNV standards

• Background in start-up or scale-up settings is advantageous

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role
