Lead Engineer – Systems Dynamics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Direct the engineering team at System Dynamics, the Beacon company specializing in DYNAMIC 3i ERP software for distribution and manufacturing sectors.

• Make critical decisions regarding architecture, infrastructure, releases, and priorities.

• Evaluate, mentor, enhance, and recruit engineering team members.

• Manage OCI compute and databases, site-to-site VPNs, operating system and database patching, backups, and disaster recovery processes.

• Oversee and modernize the release pipeline from ticketing through staged releases to customer updates.

• Mitigate operational risks by upgrading outdated infrastructure, decommissioning a colocation facility, strengthening disaster recovery protocols, and documenting operational knowledge.

• Transition schema and PL/SQL into Git with migrations and versioned APEX applications.

• Establish isolated development environments, automated testing, continuous integration gates, and code review practices.

• Implement AI coding agents for schema and PL/SQL tasks, ticket history analysis, and Forms-to-APEX migration.

• Guide the modernization of Forms and Reports 12c and roughly 1,000 APEX applications.

• Facilitate the migration of on-premises and colocation customers to OCI, including managing VPNs, data transfers, application setups, and weekend cutovers.

• Develop alerting systems and an on-call rotation to enhance uptime.

• Engage with the GM, customer IT personnel, customer DBAs, and support teams.

• Proven experience in leading a small engineering team while actively contributing code.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor team members, make performance-based decisions, and recruit talent.

• Capacity to make definitive technical choices with limited information and articulate the associated trade-offs.

• Senior-level generalist expertise in databases, Linux, networking, deployment, and application code.

• Experience managing production infrastructure, including databases, Linux fleets, backups, and disaster recovery solutions.

• History of improving codebases while addressing technical debt and continuing to deliver new features.

• Proven track record of implementing Git, continuous integration, automated testing, and code review processes.

• Regular use of coding agents and informed perspectives on their application.

• Practical skills in writing PL/SQL, editing deployment scripts, and troubleshooting IPSec tunnels.

• Ability to produce clear technical documentation for decisions, runbooks, and standards.
