Synthetic / Process Chemist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create challenging single-turn chemistry prompts categorized as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess AI model outputs against established policy standards.

• Evaluate whether model responses appropriately addressed technical inquiries.

• Develop reference answers that clarify what constitutes a correct response and the underlying technical reasoning.

• Conduct red team exercises on advanced AI models to evaluate their potential for chemistry misuse.

• Utilize expertise in practical routes, scale-up, process chemistry, and chemical safety to differentiate legitimate inquiries from hazardous ones.

• Provide written explanations that are accessible to non-specialists.

• Engage with and document chemistry misuse scenarios while taking necessary breaks or time away as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expertise in synthetic and process chemistry.

• Proven experience managing routes and scaling them from bench to pilot to production plant.

• Skill in differentiating standard professional chemistry inquiries from potentially hazardous or misuse-related questions.

• Background in synthetic route design and development within pharmaceutical, agrochemical, or fine chemicals sectors.

• Experience in process chemistry and reaction engineering, including optimization, kinetics, and impurity management.

• Familiarity with scale-up processes from bench to pilot to plant, including related safety assessments.

• Experience with precursor sourcing, controlled-substance registration, or regulatory chemistry compliance.

• Proficiency in method development and troubleshooting in a GMP or similar quality environment.

• Strong technical writing skills; all evaluations must include rationales that are comprehensible to non-specialists.

• Previous technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is highly desirable.

• Capability to read and write about misuse scenarios for extended periods.

• Must refrain from using classified or export-controlled information, NDA-protected content, or material subject to prepublication review requirements.
