This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.
• Oversee the daily operations of the Enrollment Risk department.
• Ensure adherence to underwriting eligibility and participation standards for both group and individual business.
• Evaluate and authorize risk assessments, documentation, follow-up, and underwriting choices.
• Collaborate with Sales, Rating, Actuarial, and Membership teams to clarify decisions and communicate eligibility methodologies.
• Supervise the testing and development of system upgrades, enhancements, and improvements in the underwriting process.
• Manage both external and internal communications concerning risk evaluations, eligibility, and underwriting decisions.
• Provide training and continuous education to Underwriting personnel, Sales, and other departments.
• Stay updated on federal and state underwriting regulations, including HIPAA and ACA.
• Create and implement strategies for workload management.
• Conduct quality control audits on underwriting decisions and risk evaluations.
• Offer leadership to Underwriting personnel and support business growth while ensuring financial stability.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• A bachelor's degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in underwriting, group rating, actuarial, or risk adjustment, with a focus on eligibility, enrollment, and risk evaluation within the health insurance sector.
• Candidates must either reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.
• Comprehensive understanding of underwriting principles, eligibility criteria, and risk assessment techniques.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to interpret health conditions relevant to underwriting decisions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and underwriting software.
• Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Robust leadership and coaching skills, along with experience in employee development and training.
• Understanding of federal and state regulations affecting underwriting and enrollment, including ACA, HIPAA, and ERISA.
• Preferred qualifications include LPN, Certified Nurses Aide, or Certified Medical Aide, and/or experience in coding medical records using ICD-9 or ICD-10 methodologies.
• Prior experience in leadership, supervision, and training is preferred.
• Background in medical underwriting, insurance products, regulatory compliance, and training and onboarding for underwriting teams is advantageous.
• Completion of pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, employment verifications, and education verification is required as part of a conditional offer.
