This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Direct the daily operations of the Medical Underwriting team, which includes managing and planning daily inventory.
• Supervise the assessment of medical underwriting requirements and risk selection for employees covered under group policies.
• Perform intricate case reviews and second sign-offs, making decisions on approval or denial.
• Track operational performance, set priorities, communicate objectives, and ensure team accountability.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on the organizational vision and strategic objectives.
• Develop and execute strategic plans aimed at enhancing efficiency, capabilities, and scalability.
• Stay informed about current and emerging medical underwriting practices and share insights with the team.
• Enforce underwriting rules and guidelines, conduct application quality audits, and adhere to relevant laws and regulations.
• Offer training, development opportunities, challenging assignments, and constructive feedback.
• Spearhead organizational and enterprise initiatives, manage change, and boost employee engagement.
• Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and retain high-performing team members.
• Cultivate organizational capabilities to meet current and future business demands.
• Act as a resource for team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.
• Establish relationships with key partners, including distribution and project management teams.
• Integrate Quality Assurance and Training recommendations into development and performance assessments.
• Ensure adherence to applicable state and federal regulations, guidelines, and company policies.
• Keep abreast of professional and industry trends.
• Identify and propose enhancements and develop new skills, procedures, and processes.
• Carry out other assigned duties as needed.
• Expertise in life and disability insurance underwriting.
• Proficiency in medical underwriting.
• A 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; 4 years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
• Over 5 years of risk management experience with a strong background in medical underwriting for group coverages.
• At least 2 years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience.
• FALU (Fellow Academy of Life Underwriting) certification is preferred.
• FLMI (Fellow Life Management Institute) certification is preferred.
• Experience in group/employer insurance is preferred.
