This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Utilize a strong understanding of utility substation designs and standards.
• Deliver electrical designs for relay upgrades, breaker additions and upgrades, transformer replacements, RTU installations, and new substations.
• Provide physical design services for bus additions, new equipment installations, and new substations.
• Create scope definitions, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
• Develop specifications and material lists for projects.
• Oversee the preparation of review sets and final construction documents.
• Manage as-built revisions necessary for project closeout.
• Engage with clients, utility personnel, manufacturers’ representatives, and other stakeholders as required.
• Stay updated on advancements in electric utility substation design and construction, proposing enhancements as appropriate.
• Serve as Lead Engineer for designated projects.
• Conduct documentation and inspections at project sites as needed.
• Mentor Design Engineers, Designers, and Electrical CAD Technicians.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Electrical Engineering or a Senior Protection & Control Engineer.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in substation design and construction.
• Professional Engineering License or Professional Certification is desirable.
• Proficient in scheduling software and spreadsheet applications.
• Familiarity with relevant engineering codes.
• Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, clients, and vendors.
• Capacity to work collaboratively within a team.
• Strong organizational skills to plan and implement projects with successful and timely outcomes.
• Capability to mentor and guide team members.
• Efficient utilization of software, materials, and equipment to reduce costs.
• Commitment to timely project completion and effective time management.
• Willingness to work unconventional or extended hours as necessary to support field construction.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on consistency, accuracy, and thoroughness.
• Ability to perform QAQC for design packages.
• Open to new ideas and adaptable to change.
