IT Project Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Oversee the deployment and configuration of Windows Server environments, including versions 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016.

• Design, implement, and manage Hyper-V hosts along with virtualization infrastructure, which includes VMware ESXi/vSphere environments.

• Architect and implement switches, access points, VLANs, VPNs, and routing/switching infrastructures.

• Deploy and troubleshoot firewalls from SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, or Meraki.

• Manage core network infrastructure alongside advanced routing and switching configurations.

• Lead deployments and migrations for Microsoft 365, Intune, and Azure, covering Entra ID, Azure AD, Azure VMs, and Azure networking.

• Plan and execute cloud migrations, predominantly to Azure, while also handling AWS environments.

• Configure SharePoint both on-premise and online, as well as modern collaboration platforms.

• Implement and troubleshoot BCDR, Veeam, and Barracuda backup solutions.

• Provide support for SaaS backup configurations and disaster recovery initiatives.

• Participate in project calls as the senior technical authority, outlining technical strategies, addressing complex queries, and guiding implementation while the Project Manager manages client interactions.

• Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Sales, and technical teams to ensure project delivery is on time and within scope.

• Mentor junior technicians and ensure technical quality assurance.

• Document configurations, procedures, and client environments within the documentation platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or senior systems administration.

• Demonstrated success in leading or executing end-to-end server, network, and cloud migration projects.

• Experience in a multi-client setting; experience in Managed Service Providers (MSP) is highly desirable.

• Relevant certifications are preferred, including Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator/Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or equivalent.

• Expert-level knowledge of Windows 10/11 and macOS.

• Expert-level knowledge of administration for Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016.

• Advanced hands-on experience with Hyper-V virtualization and server administration.

• Strong working experience with VMware ESXi/vSphere and various other virtualization environments.

• In-depth knowledge of routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, LAN/WAN, and SD-WAN concepts.

• Experience in configuring and deploying SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, or Meraki firewalls.

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, and Azure cloud services.

• Proven experience in planning and executing migrations from on-premise to cloud; familiarity with Azure is essential, and knowledge of AWS is beneficial.

• Experience with Veeam, Barracuda, or similar backup and disaster recovery solutions.

• Working knowledge of AWS core services, including EC2, S3, networking, and IAM.

• Proficiency in PowerShell is required; knowledge of Azure CLI or a similar tool is a plus.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project tasks and priorities.

• Capability to work independently in a fully remote setting with minimal supervision.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills for documentation, client-facing technical discussions, and internal collaboration.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in complex, multi-vendor environments.

• Bonus points for experience with VOIP, Microsoft Teams, Autotask PSA, SharePoint administration, containerization, or infrastructure-as-code.
