Substation Physical Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create new or revise existing electrical layout and plan drawings for substation equipment and structures.

• Generate foundation layout and plan drawings for substations.

• Produce section and elevation views based on layout and plan drawings.

• Develop conduit layout and plan drawings.

• Prepare grounding layout and plan drawings for substations.

• Create layout and section/elevation drawings for control buildings.

• Design electrical schematics.

• Complete electrical wiring design drawings.

• Compile a comprehensive bill of materials for necessary electrical equipment and materials.

• Review and provide feedback on equipment drawings from vendors and manufacturers.

• Collaborate with other disciplines, including Civil Engineers, to complete assigned tasks.

• Support the project team with processes and procedures to enhance team efficiency.

• Conduct basic engineering calculations to assist with engineering design.

• Apply relevant client, national, and state standards to all assignments.

• Provide substation design drawing packages and necessary documentation for 12kV to 500kV electric power substations.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate's degree in a related field is preferred; additional experience may be considered in place of a degree.

• Minimum of 2 years of direct substation physical and electrical design experience using CAD software on electric utility industry projects.

• Strong understanding and application of 2D and 3D design software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor 3D with SDS.

• Proficient in Windows-based applications such as Word and Excel.

• Ability to rapidly learn and effectively employ new design software programs.

• Advanced capability to use 2D and 3D applications for preparing engineering drawings.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and drafters within multi-disciplinary groups.

• Experience in EPC or other design-build contract types.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work products.
