This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Create comprehensive structured cabling designs for new construction, expansions, retrofits, and capacity enhancement projects related to data centers.
• Design fiber-optic and copper cabling systems that support data center networks, computing, storage, management, security, and building infrastructure.
• Develop designs for MDF, IDF, MMR, network rooms, meet-me-rooms, and data hall connectivity.
• Establish architectures for fiber backbone, horizontal cabling, interconnects, cross-connects, and equipment connectivity.
• Generate single-line diagrams, cabling schematics, rack elevations, patching diagrams, pathway layouts, fiber routing plans, and connectivity schedules.
• Assess fiber counts, cable types, connector types, patch-panel needs, termination methods, and pathway capacity.
• Design solutions utilizing single-mode and multimode fiber, including high-density fiber connectivity and MPO/MTP systems where applicable.
• Specify Category 6/6A copper infrastructure along with corresponding patching systems.
• Execute calculations for cable pathways, trays, conduits, ladder racks, and containment capacities.
• Collaborate with network architecture, electrical, mechanical, architectural, security, and construction teams to align structured cabling needs.
• Analyze construction drawings, BIM/CAD models, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and vendor proposals.
• Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and assist with material forecasting and procurement.
• Establish and uphold cabling standards, design guidelines, naming conventions, labeling requirements, and installation specifications.
• Ensure that designs adhere to relevant TIA, BICSI, IEEE, NEC/NFPA, ISO/IEC, and manufacturer standards.
• Aid in data center capacity planning and assess future needs for fiber, copper, racks, and pathways.
• Review contractor installation packages to ensure field implementations conform to approved designs.
• Assist with fiber testing, copper certification, commissioning, punch-list resolution, and project closeout.
• Review OTDR, insertion-loss, and certification test results as necessary.
• Participate remotely in design reviews, construction coordination meetings, and technical troubleshooting sessions.
• Conduct site surveys and field inspections occasionally when required.
• Identify design risks, constructability challenges, capacity limitations, and opportunities for standardization.
• Maintain precise as-built documentation, cable schedules, port assignments, rack elevations, and connectivity records.
• Manage multiple concurrent data center projects while ensuring design quality and adherence to schedules.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing structured cabling, telecommunications, network physical infrastructure, or data center infrastructure.
• Robust experience in mission-critical or data center environments.
• Proven understanding of fiber-optic infrastructure, encompassing both single-mode and multimode fiber.
