πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and engineers in the design of an innovative advanced reactor.

β€’ Design and assess mechanical systems related to advanced reactor structures, systems, and components.

β€’ Assist in the completion, implementation, and verification of engineering projects.

β€’ Create reactor vessels that comply with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, taking into account high-temperature creep and fatigue factors.

β€’ Design and assess high-temperature gaskets, seals, bolting, and associated mechanical components.

β€’ Design and document electromechanical devices, including control rod and control drum drive mechanisms.

β€’ Prepare and maintain regulated engineering models, drawings, specifications, calculations, and design descriptions.

β€’ Ensure designs meet established requirements and adhere to applicable codes and standards.

β€’ Convert project objectives into regulated design requirements using a systems-engineering methodology.

β€’ Utilize digital engineering tools to monitor design requirements, interfaces, and technical parameters.

β€’ Develop designs and confirm they meet defined requirements through recognized engineering methods and best practices.

β€’ Set testing, inspection, and quality standards.

β€’ Verify that fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement activities align with approved designs.

β€’ Develop and maintain technical baselines and configuration management for assigned systems.

β€’ Ensure uniformity across engineering and operational documents.

β€’ Define experiment requirements and create conceptual and final designs in collaboration with designers, customers, engineers, and analysts.

β€’ Assist with fabrication, inspection, experiment assembly, installation, and testing.

β€’ Support integrated engineering analyses to demonstrate compliance with facility safety bases.

β€’ Conduct design, fabrication, and related engineering tasks that support reactor operations and experimentation.

β€’ Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Reactor Project Engineer or Engineering Manager.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited program, plus a minimum of eight years of pertinent professional experience; or a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program, plus at least six years of relevant professional experience.

β€’ Familiarity with mechanical system design and evaluation.

β€’ Understanding of the ASME B31 series and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

β€’ Proficiency in engineering design techniques, tools, and principles necessary for creating technical plans, drawings, blueprints, models, specifications, and calculations.

β€’ Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles involving heat transfer, fluid dynamics, gas flow, material behavior, and system dynamics.

β€’ Awareness of engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment for designing and producing mechanical systems and components.

β€’ Capacity to apply established engineering principles and requirements to complex technical challenges.

β€’ Ability to analyze data from various sources and formulate technically sound conclusions.

β€’ Skill in identifying existing or potential design, fabrication, and operational issues.

β€’ Proficient in communicating technical information clearly through both written documentation and oral presentations.

β€’ Capable of working independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

β€’ Strong attention to detail, organization, and technical documentation skills.

β€’ Ability to handle multiple responsibilities while adhering to project timelines and quality standards.

β€’ Must be a U.S. Citizen.

β€’ Successful completion of a pre-employment screening, including a drug and breath alcohol test, and a Motor Vehicle Record check.

β€’ Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.

β€’ Must be willing to travel to the Materials and Fuels Complex as necessary.
