Structural Steel Estimator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Generate precise and comprehensive cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects, starting from the initial inquiry through to competitive bid submissions.

• Examine and interpret structural blueprints, engineering specifications, design documents, and scope requirements.

• Create material takeoffs and compute costs related to shop fabrication hours, field erection labor, equipment, and materials.

• Employ industry-standard software and digital estimating tools to assess quantities, model scopes, and produce bid proposals.

• Engage with project managers, sales representatives, detailers, and clients regarding nuances of estimates, scope definitions, and value engineering.

• Assist in project planning, transitions, and ongoing cost monitoring throughout the construction lifecycle.

• Pose clarifying questions during the bidding process to prevent scope discrepancies and ensure alignment with project specifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of focused, hands-on experience specifically in structural steel estimating.

• Demonstrated knowledge of steel fabrication, detailing, or erection processes.

• Expertise in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, MS Project, Revit, and SketchUp.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

• A robust ownership mentality with meticulous attention to detail.

• Capability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

• Availability for full-time work, 40 hours per week, in alignment with the Oregon/Pacific Time Zone.

• Experience in both steel fabrication and detailing is preferred.

• A minimum of 3 years of tenure in previous roles or companies is preferred.

• Background in commercial or complex structural metal projects is preferred.

• Familiarity with Procore is advantageous.

• A bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent practical experience in the industry.

• Must be comfortable working as an independent contractor and managing own equipment, taxes, and benefits.
