This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Direct The Nature Conservancy's initiatives at the state level throughout Missouri.

• Spearhead conservation strategies, philanthropic efforts, and external collaborations.

• Oversee a network of preserves and Centers for Conservation Innovation.

• Collaborate with state agencies, academic institutions, and local organizations to further TNC’s mission.

• Supervise senior program and development personnel.

• Manage and enhance a large, intricate Business Unit.

• Execute TNC’s conservation strategy and achieve measurable conservation outcomes.

• Align activities and coordinate resources, capacity, and programs for organization-wide projects, threats, and strategies.

• Act as the primary local spokesperson to staff, volunteers, trustees, donors, government officials, community leaders, and partners.

• Build audiences to support and advocate for TNC’s mission and vision.

• Oversee Business Unit fundraising efforts, approve budgets, and establish private and public fundraising priorities.

• Assist staff in donor engagement and direct solicitation efforts.

• Lead direct fundraising initiatives for a significant portion of the Business Unit.

• Inspire, manage, and motivate staff while fostering culture and engagement.

• Supervise conservation, policy, fundraising, and operational plans in Missouri.

• Direct resources towards impactful work and generate measurable results.

• Develop and nurture an inclusive workplace culture characterized by trust, fairness, and opportunities for professional growth.

• Engage donors, corporations, and foundations to support local, divisional, and global outcomes.

• Empower and support a volunteer Board of Trustees in fundraising, networking, advocacy, and strategic leadership.

• Represent TNC with government leaders, agencies, partners, corporations, foundations, and academic institutions.

• Ensure organizational health and financial sustainability, including strategic planning, program commitments, multi-million-dollar budgets, financial standards, and legal compliance.

• Participate on the Great Plains Division Leadership Team, shaping strategy, identifying priorities, and developing, funding, and deploying talent for cross-boundary initiatives.

• Travel regularly throughout the geography and globally, estimated at 40%.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.

• At least 7 years of leadership experience in conservation, the non-profit sector, advocacy, or a related for-profit field.

• Extensive and proven management experience in leading, motivating, setting objectives, and managing the performance of a large multi-disciplinary team.

• Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Fluency in the primary language of the operating unit if it is not English.

• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

• Experience in communicating with and presenting to a diverse array of audiences, including donors, board members, employees, and external partners.

• Proficient in fundraising and budget management.

• Experience both within the U.S. and internationally is preferred.

• Demonstrated commitment to developing and practicing global literacy.

• Proven managerial skills in budgeting, staffing, and performance management.

• Strong technical competencies, analytical skills, good judgment, and a solid operational focus.

• Demonstrated operational implementation and detail-oriented perspective.

• Valid driver's license and adherence to TNC’s Auto Safety Program.

• Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a motor vehicle record review.

• Must reside in Missouri or be willing to relocate to Missouri.

• Willingness and ability to travel routinely throughout the geography and globally as needed, estimated at 40%.

• Flexibility to work beyond standard hours, including weekends, as required during critical deadlines.
