Staff Software Engineer, Web Application Services

📋 Description

• Spearhead the technical architecture for new Services products

• Manage intricate projects and pinpoint enhancements to fortify evolving systems

• Develop code, create prototypes and experiments, and engage in all phases from planning and testing to implementation, monitoring, and maintenance

• Define software patterns and make technical decisions, including researching and recommending technology options

• Construct and advance analytics and infrastructure utilizing user-generated data to guide decision-making

• Address ambiguous, high-level challenges impacting Services objectives, including user and subscriber growth

• Provide technical and product leadership across Thunderbird while collaborating with Mozilla and community contributors

• Collaborate with the team and community to identify issues, refine concepts, and devise practical solutions

• Strategize enhancements that render systems and processes more accessible, self-serviceable, low-friction, sustainable, scalable, and easier to delegate

• Guide engineers through code reviews, documentation, technical discussions, process enhancements, and ongoing mentorship

• Remain updated with technologies, coding standards, libraries, and frameworks

• Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to facilitate data-driven product decisions and foster product growth

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of web software development experience, including the design of scalable and efficient systems and the launch of complex web projects at scale

• Advanced JavaScript proficiency and familiarity with at least one other programming language, such as Python, Rust, Go, or C++

• Insight into the business landscape and experience working with teams to grow Thunderbird’s user and donor base

• Proficiency in front-end frameworks, full-stack development, and/or API development

• Strong understanding of software development practices, including testing, code reviews, and documentation

• Proven experience as a technical lead, tackling complex technical challenges and mentoring fellow engineers

• Experience collaborating remotely across engineering, product management, QA, and design teams

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, along with strong documentation abilities

• Comfort working in an open-source environment and dedication to Mozilla values

• Capacity to learn, assess, and responsibly utilize emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools

• Commitment to continuous learning and staying abreast of industry trends and technologies

• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, including internationally
