This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Design, plan, and execute new user interface systems and functionalities
• Develop reliable and maintainable C++ code to support player-facing UI
• Collaborate with UI Art, UX Design, Technical UI Design, Production, and fellow engineers
• Construct and uphold data-driven UI architectures utilizing patterns such as MVVM
• Enhance UI systems and troubleshoot performance issues and glitches
• Resolve issues across UI, gameplay systems, rendering, platform behaviors, and interconnected systems
• Work with UMG, Slate, and the wider UI framework of Unreal
• Integrate UI with game and online systems, sourcing data through application systems to player-facing interfaces
• Collaborate with existing web services, endpoints, or online subsystems as required
• Implement features across PC and other supported platforms, considering input, platform behavior, and performance variations
• Engage in code reviews and asynchronous technical discussions within a distributed engineering team
• Proficient C++ programming skills
• Strong programming fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, architecture, and software design patterns
• Professional experience in Unreal Engine development
• Ability to articulate and work with architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVC, or similar methodologies that distinguish data, logic, and presentation
• Professional background in developing UI systems or player-facing features
• Solid understanding of UI development principles, distinct from general gameplay programming experience
• Experience in diagnosing bugs, performance issues, and runtime challenges
• Proven experience working collaboratively with designers, artists, production staff, and engineers beyond the immediate discipline
• Excellent written communication skills for code reviews, asynchronous problem-solving, technical documentation, and distributed development
• Extensive hands-on UI experience and a strong grasp of UI architecture and best practices for gameplay or generalist engineering candidates
• Preferred: familiarity with UMG and Slate
• Preferred: experience utilizing Unreal Insights
• Preferred: knowledge of networking concepts, online subsystems, or web services
• Preferred: experience in consuming or extending existing service endpoints
• Preferred: background in developing UI across multiple platforms
• Preferred: experience in console development
• Preferred: mobile development experience, including iOS or Android
• Preferred: experience supporting various input methods such as controller, mouse and keyboard, and touch
