Staff Software Engineer, Backend – Trust and Safety

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction for the team over a year-long period and link it to significant, business-impacting projects.

• Work in conjunction with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development process.

• Define and promote technical solutions and operational protocols.

• Manage team operations and availability, which includes monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call responsibilities.

• Set standards for code reviews and design, advocating for them through documentation and technical discussions.

• Foster team talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading through example.

• Oversee complex, business-critical Trust and Safety Foundations initiatives.

• Construct and maintain foundational systems and data capabilities that support consumer risk assessment and credit reporting requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years experience in designing, developing, and launching large-scale backend systems using languages such as Python or Kotlin.

• Proven experience in creating highly available distributed systems.

• Familiarity with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver significant features, system components, or phase out existing functionalities through technical and execution plans.

• Capacity to write high-quality code that is easily understood and utilized by others.

• Proficiency in transitioning from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture.

• Experience in collecting and refining feedback from engineering and cross-functional teams.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Either relevant practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.

• Candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
