Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical vision for Root’s build and deployment systems in collaboration with engineering teams, Platform Engineering, Security, and engineering leadership.

• Identify and spearhead high-impact initiatives that minimize feedback-loop duration, manual effort, and cognitive load across the Engineering division.

• Design and enhance dependable, scalable, and maintainable systems for building, testing, releasing, and deploying software.

• Contribute code strategically during each development cycle, especially in complex or high-visibility areas.

• Collaborate with Staff Engineers throughout the organization to set standards, create paved paths, and promote adoption.

• Mentor and develop engineers on the team by exemplifying strong technical judgment, collaboration, and execution.

• Lead by example during incidents and advocate for enhancements to the resilience and operability of shared engineering systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.

• 3+ years of experience leading software teams or significant technical initiatives.

• Proficiency in designing or managing CI/CD, developer tooling, or internal platform systems.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and build automation.

• Familiarity with Terraform and modern application development workflows.

• Demonstrated leadership in projects involving multiple teams and complex migrations.

• Exceptional communication skills with engineering peers and senior leaders.

• Must be on camera for virtual interviews.
