Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Tools & Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Finland.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, deploy, and manage software and systems that support Firefox engineering.

• Contribute to developer tools, CI/CD processes, workflow automation, and AI-driven development tools.

• Take ownership of intricate technical challenges from start to finish across software, cloud, and operational layers, enhancing reliability, performance, observability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Collaborate with Firefox engineering, Cloud Engineering, IT, and various teams to address challenges that span both technical and organizational boundaries.

• Utilize telemetry, metrics, and data analysis to diagnose issues and inform engineering decisions.

• Engage in architecture and technical strategy discussions, identifying recurring issues and solutions that can be applied across teams.

• Work across various projects and technical areas, joining teams or existing initiatives as needed, while independently tackling issues that require dedicated ownership.

• Give back to the broader open-source community.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient software engineering skills with significant hands-on experience in deploying and operating production systems.

• Strong programming capabilities in languages such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Familiarity with C++ or Rust is advantageous.

• Experience in building, deploying, and maintaining production systems within cloud environments.

• Knowledge of infrastructure as code methodologies, such as Terraform.

• Expertise in several domains including CI/CD, containers and orchestration, networking, databases, observability, or developer tools.

• Experience leveraging data, telemetry, and metrics to analyze technical challenges and make informed decisions.

• Understanding of modern AI-assisted development tools, including their strengths, limitations, and appropriate applications.

• Ability to engage with unfamiliar systems and bring them to a sustainable operating state.

• Capability to work effectively across various disciplines and bridge the gap between software, infrastructure, and operational issues.

• Strong hands-on engineering, systems thinking, and long-term technical judgment.

• Open, consistent, and respectful communication skills; enjoy teaching and assisting others in enhancing their skills in unfamiliar technical domains.
