Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Tools & Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, create, implement, and manage software and systems that support Firefox engineering.

• Contribute to developer tools, CI/CD processes, workflow automation, and AI-enhanced development tools.

• Take ownership of intricate technical challenges from start to finish across software, cloud, and operational layers, enhancing reliability, performance, observability, and cost effectiveness.

• Collaborate with Firefox engineering, Cloud Engineering, IT, and additional teams to address issues that cross technical and organizational boundaries.

• Leverage telemetry, metrics, and data analysis to explore issues and inform engineering choices.

• Participate in architectural design and technical strategy, identifying recurring challenges and solutions that can be applied across various teams.

• Engage with multiple projects and technical areas, joining existing teams or initiatives when necessary and independently tackling challenges that require dedicated focus.

• Give back to the larger open-source community.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient software engineering skills with significant practical experience in deploying and managing production systems.

• Strong programming capabilities in languages such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Familiarity with C++ or Rust is advantageous.

• Experience in building, deploying, and managing production systems within cloud environments.

• Proficient in infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.

• Background in several areas, including CI/CD, containers and orchestration, networking, databases, observability, or developer tools.

• Experience utilizing data, telemetry, and metrics to investigate technical issues and inform decisions.

• Knowledge of modern AI-assisted development tools along with an understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and appropriate applications.

• Comfortable navigating unfamiliar systems and bringing them to a sustainable state.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across various disciplines and bridge the gap between software, infrastructure, and operational concerns.

• Strong hands-on engineering skills, systems thinking, and long-term technical judgment.

• Open, consistent, and respectful communication style; enjoys mentoring and helping others develop skills in new technical areas.
