Staff Product Manager – Connected Devices

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the hardware and firmware roadmap for in-field Equipment Monitoring devices.

• Lead the execution of new product introductions from problem identification and sourcing to EVT, DVT, PVT, certification, mass production ramp-up, and post-launch stabilization.

• Manage installed-base metrics, including field failure rates, RMA rates, field battery life, connectivity and positioning performance, and installation success.

• Define and prioritize firmware features focused on power optimization, connectivity resilience, positioning accuracy, sensor fusion, OTA reliability, diagnostics, security, and fleet observability.

• Oversee the product aspects of device partnerships, including partner and mesh networks.

• Make strategic trade-offs regarding feature sets, BOM costs, power budgets, connectivity, antenna performance, manufacturability, ruggedness, installation experience, quality, and timelines.

• Convert customer and market insights into product requirements through discovery and collaborative input from various teams.

• Draft PRDs and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with Hardware, Firmware, Mechanical, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and TPM through product gates.

• Collaborate with cloud and mobile product teams on telemetry schemas, provisioning, OTA, and device management.

• Ensure go-to-market readiness in partnership with Product Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Support, Install, and Operations.

• Represent Motive's hardware interests with vendors, manufacturers, carriers, test labs, certification bodies, and network/OEM partners.

• Report directly to the VP of Connected Devices and work closely with the Equipment Monitoring product team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of product management experience.

• Significant experience in launching IoT, telematics, tracking, or connected hardware products from concept to mass production and maintaining them post-launch.

• Proven track record of owning at least one complete hardware NPI achieving substantial volume, ideally over 100K units.

• Experience in navigating EVT/DVT/PVT/MP gates, regulatory certifications, and managing supplier/contract-manufacturer relationships.

• Technical proficiency in battery-powered connected systems, including MCUs and SoCs, power management, battery chemistry, RF and antenna design, GNSS, cellular, BLE, environmental ratings, and firmware architecture.

• Direct experience in managing firmware roadmaps, OTA update strategies, staged rollouts, release trains, device provisioning and security, telemetry design, and device observability.

• Demonstrated responsibility for field reliability.

• Ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional projects and influence roadmaps without direct authority.

• Strong customer empathy combined with data fluency.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
