Posted Jul 25
This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the vision, strategy, and roadmap for observability at Render. This includes overseeing systems telemetry (logs, metrics, distributed tracing), OpenTelemetry-native instrumentation and export, agent and LLM observability (traces of model calls, tool usage, and multi-step agent operations), as well as the cost and usage layer that clarifies token economics.
• Lead the prioritization of observability investments, striking a balance between foundational telemetry infrastructure and immediate product requirements.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering and other Product teams to influence the technical direction of Render's telemetry pipeline, ensuring that architectural choices enhance signal fidelity, query performance, and scalability cost-effectiveness. As observability is integral to all product aspects at Render, it is crucial to grasp the nuances of our other investment areas.
• Formulate a robust, informed perspective on the implications of observability for AI-native developers. Consider how OTel conventions will apply to agent workloads, envision what a trace of an agent's execution might entail within Render, and guide teams in understanding token expenditure, model routing, and cost attribution.
• Over 7 years of experience in Product Management, particularly in observability, monitoring, developer tools, or infrastructure products.
• Proficiency in the OpenTelemetry ecosystem — including signals, semantic conventions, collectors, and the challenges of instrumenting live production systems. Bonus points if you are familiar with emerging conventions for GenAI and agent observability.
• Understanding of the economics surrounding AI workloads: token pricing, model selection trade-offs, and how teams plan budgets for and attribute LLM spending. Major bonus if you have experience with an LLM gateway, proxy, or metering product.
• Strong empathy for developers, both within internal engineering teams and among our customers, along with the technical expertise to make informed architectural decisions in partnership with engineering.
• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, cross-disciplinary challenges into clear strategies and tangible outcomes.
• Excellent communication and storytelling capabilities.
• 4 weeks of paid vacation.
• 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child. We will also collaborate with you to create a supportive return plan.
• Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.
• 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent. FSAs and HSAs are also available.
• Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health, therapy, hobbies, etc.
• Monthly subsidy for cell phone and internet expenses.
• Commuter benefits for Renders located in the Bay Area, and home office stipends for remote Renders.
• Ongoing learning benefits and related support.
