Staff Product Engineer – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Chile, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Lead impactful projects within the Financial Operations (FinOps) team.

• Provide technical direction across the organization.

• Take ownership of and validate significant architectural decisions.

• Contribute to payment and transaction systems, including integrations with Stripe, LayerFi, and Cherry.

• Work on middleware and backend architecture, GraphQL schemas, APIs, and data models.

• Become proficient in FinOps workflows, backend architecture, and release practices within three months.

• Deliver targeted backend enhancements and fixes to improve reliability, performance, or developer experience.

• Lead FinOps initiatives from design through architecture reviews, cross-functional collaboration, and launch.

• Develop technical proposals through their review, approval, and implementation stages.

• Oversee organization-wide engineering initiatives such as testing standards, SDLC, documentation, or code review.

• Demonstrate measurable improvements in engineering quality or velocity.

• Collaborate effectively with Product, Design, and engineering teams.

• Clearly communicate status, risks, and trade-offs.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–12 years of backend engineering experience, including senior or staff-level roles leading large initiatives and influencing architecture across teams.

• Staff-level hands-on individual contributor experience leading significant, ambiguous initiatives and managing scope, delivery, and trade-offs.

• Proven experience in building and deploying financial, payment, or transaction systems.

• Strong judgment in backend and API design across middleware, GraphQL schemas, APIs, and data models.

• Experience in making and defending key architectural decisions.

• Familiarity with establishing or enhancing unit testing, code review, documentation, or SDLC automation practices.

• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and engineering colleagues.

• Proficiency with AI tools in daily tasks.

• Position is open to candidates located in Chile, Brazil, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.
