Staff Pharmacist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assess and clinically confirm both new and refill prescriptions for therapeutic suitability, potential interactions, contraindications, and dosage precision.

• Verify prescription data entry conducted by pharmacy technicians.

• Check filled prescriptions for accuracy regarding drug, dosage, quantity, NDC, and labeling prior to shipment.

• Conduct daily prospective drug utilization reviews and address any clinical flags.

• Oversee the handling of specialty medications, including verification of cold-chain storage.

• Conduct outbound counseling calls that provide information on medications, side effects, dosage, storage, and adherence.

• Manage inbound clinical patient calls and accurately document interactions in the pharmacy management system.

• Offer bilingual counseling to Spanish-speaking patients when necessary.

• Reach out to prescriber offices to clarify prescriptions that are incomplete, unclear, or inappropriate.

• Collaborate with prescribers on therapeutic substitutions, DAW overrides, and formulary alternatives.

• Supervise pharmacy technicians and perform real-time quality checks.

• Address technician performance trends and engage in coaching and training initiatives.

• Ensure adherence to HIPAA, state pharmacy regulations, federal DEA regulations, and company policies.

• Oversee the handling and destruction of PHI records.

• Take part in audits, prescription error tracking, near-miss reporting, and pharmacovigilance activities.

• Maintain compliance with storage regulations for temperature-sensitive medications.

• Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, patient services, clinical teams, compliance, technology, shipping, and fulfillment departments.

• Contribute clinical insights on technology and workflow enhancements.

• Engage in huddles, quality reviews, and departmental meetings.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy.

• Active Missouri Pharmacy License in good standing with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy.

• Proficient command of the English language, both written and spoken.

• Proven ability to execute high-volume prescription verifications with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

• Strong technical skills and the ability to master pharmacy management systems, verification platforms, and internal workflow tools.

• Bilingual in Spanish preferred for telephonic patient counseling.

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a mail order, specialty, retail, or closed-door fulfillment pharmacy is preferred.

• Active pharmacy licensure required in the home state.

• Must acquire licensure in 3 additional specified states within the first 9 months of employment.

• Familiarity with pharmacovigilance or adverse drug event reporting protocols is preferred.
