Staff Frontend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for React/TypeScript applications and the foundational patterns utilized by the team.

• Spearhead the development of efficient, accessible user interfaces tailored for intricate research and analytics processes.

• Establish and uphold frontend standards concerning performance budgets, accessibility, testing, and CI quality gates.

• Collaborate with the Design team to build and enhance the shared component library and design system.

• Propel measurable performance enhancements by profiling, addressing bottlenecks, and implementing solutions.

• Collaborate with backend engineers on API agreements.

• Actively work to reduce frontend technical debt.

• Contribute to Python/Django services when it expedites delivery.

• Mentor fellow engineers.

• Oversee department-wide technical initiatives from their proposal to implementation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years in engineering, primarily in frontend roles, with at least 3 years at a senior level managing projects from start to finish.

• Extensive knowledge of React, including hooks, composition patterns, and rendering behaviors.

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript.

• Expertise in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS/SCSS, including modern layout models.

• Demonstrated ownership of frontend architecture at scale, encompassing module boundaries, shared component libraries, and strategies for state management.

• Expertise in web performance, covering Core Web Vitals, bundle analysis, code splitting, virtualization, and profiling using real tools.

• Proficient in accessibility, including WCAG 2.1 AA standards, semantic HTML, keyboard and focus management, and screen reader testing.

• Experience with design systems featuring reusable, themeable, and documented components developed in collaboration with Design.

• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, and end-to-end coverage via Playwright or Cypress.

• Proficient in consuming REST and/or GraphQL APIs, including data-fetching and caching strategies like React Query, SWR, or Apollo.

• Basic knowledge of Python/Django sufficient to read backend code, collaborate with backend engineers on endpoint shaping, and implement minor changes.

• Capability to mentor and perform judgment-based code reviews.
